This is the boat you have been dreaming of...........

This is a 17' Boston whaler, originally a Sakonnet.

The Sakonnet (pronounced "sa-CAWN-nit") was "a luxuriously practical sport fishing vehicle" according to the catalog. For a $1070 premium over the bare hull, you got lights, reversible pilot seat with cabinets, bow platform, console and windshield, mechanical steering, single lever engine control, stainless bow rails, bow chock, fire extinguisher, and a compass, bringing the total to $2,370 in 1970 dollars. It outlived its two sisters by a couple of years.

The casting platform could not be saved so this boat is now set up as a Montauk.  This boat was completely restored by Brain Baxter of Port Saint Lucie FL, who was with Pursuit boats for over 20 years as a boat builder. Restoration started in 2022 and was completed in 2024.   This boat has been totally rebuilt. The hull was ground down to the green glass and re-gel coated inside and out.  A new transom, new electrical and plumbing were installed.   The boat comes with a 2022 Suzuki 90HP motor with less than 20 hours. The boat was recommissioned to use in August of 2024, and the motor was run for two days on Lake Michigan to break it in.   Although the center counsel and seat are not the original Mahogany wood, the builder upgraded the center counsel and seat to a 78-83 center counsel from an original Boston whaler and the z-seat legs are also original Boston whaler parts.   The trailer was new in 2024 and was purchased in Maryland and driven to Chicago. That is all the trailer has been driven.    This is a close to a new boat as you will find without a $70K price tag.
